The Donut-Making Process
At The Donut Experiment, we love sharing the wonder of donuts and the process of making them. We specialize in cake donuts and the process of making them is pretty simple. First, we mix our ingredients into a smooth, silky batter. Then, we load it into a hopper where it's extruded into donut-shaped rings and dispensed into the fryer oil. After frying, the donuts are removed from the hot oil to cool, then they go to the assembly line where our donut makers can customize them to your wants. Here we’ll add icing or coating, topping, and drizzle to put the finishing touch on your delicious donut. And, that's it! There's also a whole lot of love that goes into each and every donut we make at The Donut Experiment in Lombard, and we hope you'll come visit us soon to try one (or two!) for yourself!
The History of
The Donut
We also believe the history of the donut is fascinating, mostly because it's something of a legend! The story goes that the donut as we know it today was invented in the early 1800s by a Dutch-American baker named Hanson Gregory. He is credited with creating the first ring-shaped donut. However, at the time, Gregory was not a professional baker but rather a ship Captain transporting limestone. The original donuts were made without holes, but Gregory realized that they cooked more evenly if they had a hole in the center. And so, the donut as we know it was born! Or, so it seems. In reality, Gregory's claim is often contested, and we may never know if he truly is the father of the modern donut.
What we do know for sure is that the first donut shop opened in New York City in 1873, and the popularity of donuts has only grown since then. Today, donuts are a beloved treat enjoyed by people all over the world, and for good reasons! These sweet treats are delicious, fun to eat, and can be customized to suit any taste.
